2014 Spring - Math 32 Exam 2 - topics

MAJOR TOPICS COVERED ON MATH 32 EXAM 2: APRIL 7, 2014.

  1. Logarithms and logarithmic differentiation
  2. Differentiation of inverse trig functions
  3. Indeterminate forms and L'Hopital's Rule [specify use of L'Hopital's rule by putting the appropriate form of 0/0 or ∞/∞ above the equality sign]
  4. Related rate problems
  5. Extreme value theorem (know its statement); finding the absolute max and absolute min of a continuous function on a closed interval.
  6. Graphing: you will be given f(x), f'(x), f''(x) and then asked to determine many of the function’s properties that are required for graphing the function. However, you will not graph this function.
  7. In another problem, you will be asked to graph ONE function which satisfies all the properties listed in the problem.
  8. Antiderivatives, indefinite integrals and initial value problems, definite integrals (including evaluation geometrically and using the fundamental theorem of calculus).

[Note: the Mean Value Theorem and the fundamental theorem of calculus for differentiating an integral whose upper bound is x are omitted from the covered topics.]

Old Exams can be found on http://courses.math.tufts.edu/math32/ under Exam 2. The topics vary from exam to exam. Ignore any applied max/min problems since we have not yet covered them. Topics 3) and 8) in the above list sometimes aren't covered until after Exam 2. Some exams don't contain related rate problems.
